Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama

This is the one that started it all.  During the summer of 2020, in the middle of the CoVID-19 pandemic, I asked Terry Moore if he would be interested in my adapting his landmark soap opera noir with alternative universes and song Strangers In Paradise as an audio drama.  I have been in love with the audio drama medium for almost as long as I’ve been alive, and kept vowing I would produce audio dramas of my own, so this was an impulse.

My expectations was that Terry would metaphorically look at me funny, say ‘No,’ and go back to drawing.  Instead, he said ‘Yes,’ provided I did it purely as a fan production.

A little shocked, I reached out to my friend Chris Honeywell.  Chris and I had been working for almost two years on The Honeywell Experiment, a podcast about grindhouse cinema that had dramatic introductions and he was, and is, a master of sound design on a punk rock level--thus his title ‘Sultan of Sound Design.’  I expected him to say no...but he said yes.

So I started casting about for voice talents, thinking I wouldn’t find any--and found several great actors willing to help me to bring Terry’s comic to life.  And I found out that we all genuinely liked each other and wanted to do more and more audio drama...and here we are at 8TW, one Big Happy!

Strangers In Paradise
is going to be an ongoing series, with the seasons broken down into ‘Books’ that reflect the Books that comprise the series.  I am writing the adaptations, and am striving to be as accurate as I can to Terry’s original.  That’s going to make things interesting, given Terry’s switches from comic to prose to music and back, but we’re up to the task!  The intention is to do the entire series (nineteen books!), so SiP: The Audio Drama will be around for a while.

Book One will be released weekly starting on November 27th through The Two True Freaks Network, with Book Two: I Dream of You, premiering in late March 2021.
