12/28 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE, BEAUTIES AND THE BEAST and EILEEN THORNE, FREELANCE LAB ASSISTANT)

Good afternoon, everyone!  I hope you enjoyed an...unusual but joyful Christmas Day this past Friday.

Public Domain Comics Theater Comics For Your Ears #1 (available here) is still on sale for $5.  If you’ve got a surfeit of Christmas or other holiday cash, please mosey on over to our temporary Pop-up Shop!

Those of you who have been following Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama (and there are a lot of you; our first episode has been downloaded a thousand times since its debut on Black Friday!) shouldn’t be worried that there are only three more episodes of this season to go.  This weekend, Thomas Deja begun the task of adapting the second book in Terry Moore’s classic, I Dream of You, and he actually got a little bit ahead, finishing the first episode in a matter of hours!  The plan is to begin record our second season starting in February with episodes dropping every Friday starting March 27th, 2021.*

That doesn’t mean we’re going dark three weeks from this Friday.  We’ve got Death Code: Ninja and the Spacehawk episode of Public Domain Comics Theater later in January.  There’ll be another PDCT this winter that adapts ‘The Pit of Horror’ from Adventures Into Darkness #7.  And then there’s our first 8TW After Dark production (dropping on Valentine’s Day), Beauties and The Beast, and our first Eileen Thorne: Freelance Lab Assistant serial!

Beauties and The Beast
started out as our second VHS Box Theater...but it sort of ran away from itself and became something weirder (I have not seen the original film, but I am pretty sure there is no Sumerian Fire Demon Bird in it), as well as more....adult.  We had already come up with the 8TW After Dark line for a project that’s in stasis--if it ever gets greenlit, you’re going to love it--to represent productions that may be a little more violent, profane or overall adult than our usual audience.  As Beauties contains audio nudity, frank language and, ummmm, a sex scene between a human and a cryptid...well, it became obvious this had to be put behind the beaded curtain at the back of our theater.

And we’re proud to report that the first part of our first adventure featuring Ms. Thorne, ‘The Cross-Cut Saw of Time,’ is in the can and scheduled for recording later in January.  We’re aiming for a late February/early March release for this serialized story, which will see Eileen and her new...friend? (she did try to remove Eileen’s face when they first met, after all) Dr. Leda Marsh venturing into The Quantum Clocoa to confront her evil twin sister, Elaine!  What’s a Quantum Clocoa, you ask?  You’ll know soon enough!  It’ll be a rollicking adventure in questionable science in the tonuge-through-cheek 8TW style!

Don’t forget to follow our Twitter (maintained by Bernice, Our Social Media Cat) @Ocadecagonagon and join our Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/164149742068310/.  And check in on Friday for the next episode of Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama!

*--We are casting for several key roles in I Dream of You, especially Darcy Parker.  We encourage any aspiring voice actors to contact us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com.  Keep in mind that, due to rights issues, SiP is strictly a fan work.  Guidelines on how to audition in general for us can be found here

12/14 Update (DEATH CODE NINJA, PUBLIC DOMAIN COMIC THEATER, and other stuff!)

Good day, my friends!  I hope you’re all enjoying the holiday season of your choice!  We here at 8TW are very inclusive...just remember, it’s always the season for giving when it comes to people less fortunate than ourselves!

We’re still on holiday break here at the virtual recording studio, but that doesn’t mean we’re standing around doing nothing!  Yesterday, our Graphic Design Doyen Clair auditioned for the upcoming season of America’s Got Talent, and while we’re scattered all across the country, we were all behind her sending her positivity and encouragement.  And two of our writers, Thomas Deja and David Ellis, are hard at work on new scripts for upcoming production.  David’s project is the debut of F.O.X.E.S., Lightning Bolt: Ressurection, featuring the heroines of our January production Death Code: Ninja.  And Tom is almost done with our February production Beauties and The Beast (which will be released on Valentine’s Day and might be our first 8TW After Dark presentation, but more on that in the coming weeks) and is writing the first episode of the first Eileen Thorne: Freelance Lab Assistant serial, set to debut in March!  Tom also recorded another bonus feature for Death Code: Ninja, as he sat down to watch the actual films whose VHS Box inspired David to write next month’s extravaganza.  Not only does he discuss the movie, its ‘auteur’ Godfrey Ho and how close we came to capturing the source material, he recorded his reactions as he watched!  Come to The Movies: Death Code: Ninja will be available as part of the DCN box set in February (and if you’re a Patreon of Thomas’ Domicile of Dread, you can hear it right now!).

Of course, we’re sure some of you folks have friends and family who like audio drama, and you’d like the perfect present for them.  Well, lucky you...next Monday, the 8TW will be offering Public Domain Comic Theater Comics For Your Ears #1: Horror, which collects our first two productions back in October, the special production that was made available to select You Tube and Podcast audiences last month, and a brand new production, Dancer of Death (be prepared for all the accents, 'cause we got 'em in this one!).  Each of these stories are introduced and narrated by The Horror Host (portrayed by our Sultan of Sound Design Chris Honeywell), giving a little spice to each story.  Plus our individual players came up with some exclusive commercials and other interstissal bits, and you should also get some trailers for future titles. It’ll be yours for only $5, wrapped up for you in a pleasant little zip file tied with an imaginary bow.

And while, for the time being, we will be making this first box set available through Ko-Fi starting this coming Monday, the 21st... that is going to change.  Femmie London, our Maven of Marketing, has been deep at work.  Our plan for next year includes the installation of a Patreon and an online shop where you’ll be able to purchase our box sets...and maaaybe some other stuff.  We already have some ideas of what we can offer Patrons (there’s a reason we’re renovating a virtual space on our Discord presently codenamed ‘Da Lounge’), but if you have an idea of what you’d like to see, please let us know at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com!

Don’t forget to follow our Twitter (maintained by Bernice, Our Social Media Cat) @Ocadecagonagon and join our Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/164149742068310/.

We’re really excited about 2021, and the food for your ears we want to share with you.  Join us Friday for Episode Four of Strangers In Paradise, and get ready to visit our temporary Pop-Up Shop on Monday!

12/7 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE, DEATH CODE: NINJA...and SPACEHAWK!)

Yes, there were Strangers In
Paradise
trading cards.
Good day, my friends! I hope you’ve enjoyed the second episode of Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama.  We’re still reeling from the reception of our debut--not only was that first episode the most downloaded production in November on the Two True Freaks Network after only four days of release, it’s presently the third most downloaded production for all of 2020.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Thank you all!  You must really like what we’re laying down, and I hope we can continue to keep you entertained as we adapt the entire epic.  The present plan is for writing to begin on Season Two, I Dream of You after Christmas with the intention of releasing it starting late March.  Be sure to check our production schedule, which has recently been updated, for more information.

This weekend we finally put a lid on Death Code: Ninja, and recorded two bonus features for the ‘Collector’s Edition’ that will be available for a modest fee in February.  You’ll be able to hear interviews with Femmie London (who plays Yuki in our 80‘s martial arts spy action epic) and writer David Ellis.  Sometime this week, I will be reviving the popular ‘Come To The Movies’ format to watch, react to and review the actual Death Code: Ninja, which will also be part of the Collector’s Edition.  If there’s something else you’d like to see as a bonus feature, please contact us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com!

Oh...you might have noticed that there’s something new on the release schedule.  The last Friday in January, we will be releasing the first episode of Public Domain Comic Theater for 2021 in collaboration with YouTuber FizzFop.  You may be familiar with Fizz’ ‘Lost Heroes’ essays on obscure and notable super heroes of the Golden, Silver and Bronze Age.  Next month, Fizz will be presenting an essay on Spacehawk, the closest thing the great cartoonist Basil Wolverton did to a superhero series.  I love Wolverton, and I adore his bizarre and original art, so when he suggested 8TW might want to adapt a Spacehawk story, I jumped at the chance.  Fizz also chose a few other stories for us to adapt throughout the spring, including two more horror stories, so watch for them--and check out his YouTube channel.

Just a reminder--in addition to keeping track of our blog, we encourage you to follow our Twitter (maintained by Bernice, Our Social Media Cat) @Ocadecagonagon.  We also have a Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/164149742068310/.

There’s more in the pipeline throughout the new year, and we’d love to hear what you’d like to hear us do.  Would you like us to adapt classic children’s literature?  Is there a special property you’d like us to explore?  Let us know by emailing us at the address above.  Thank you again for being on this journey with us, and we’ll see you here Friday for Episode Three of Strangers In Paradise!

11/30 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE and stuff in prep for 2021)

Good day, my friends! I hope you all enjoyed the first episode of Strangers In Paradise: The Audio DramaWe’ve been touched by all the positive words, especially the tweet that came from Terry Moore himself.

Our next episode is done and ready to debut this coming Friday, December 4th.  This episode features the introduction of David, played by Riley Maness...and one of my favorite scenes in the whole first book, which includes a phrase that never ceases to make me giggle (a phrase that Terry told me he came up with because the editors wouldn’t let him use the phrase he wanted).  The episode will also feature voice work by Vanessa Van Zerr, who will play Margie, and Amy Riddle...oh, and a surprise cameo by co-custodian of the Critically Acclaimed Podcast Network and self-described (and proud of it) cinema snob Witney Seibold.

This weekend we closed out our recording schedule for the year--okay, save for one small sequence of Death Code: Ninja that I promise you’ll love once we wrap it up later this week.  We’ve got everything we’re presenting to you recorded through January 22nd, and that episode of Public Domain Comic Theater will be recorded on our first session of 2021, January 10th.  We’ll be enjoying the holidays...although some of us will be working on scripts for Beauties and The Beast, Women’s Prison Massacre, Lightning Bolt: Resurrection and the first episode of Eileen Thorne, Freelance Lab Assistant.

Now that you’ve heard what we’re capable of, tell us what you’d like to see us tackle.  While it looks like we’ve got most of 2021 locked in (what with the above and new episodes of VHS Box Theater and Public Domain Comic Theater as well as the beginning of Strangers In Paradise: I Dream of You and pre-production for the first Trekker serial, coming in late summer), we’re always looking for new projects.  We’ve had some discussion, given how grindhouse-y most of our work has been to date, about doing some all-ages fare.  8TW is all about turning people onto the joys of audio drama, so it would seem that something younger folks could listen to would be a natural.  What do you think?  Should we turn our wierd sensibilities to, let’s say, classical children’s literature?

Just a reminder--in addition to keeping track of our blog, we encourage you to follow our Twitter (maintained by Bernice, Our Social Media Cat) @Ocadecagonagon.  Bernice assures me a Facebook page will be forthcoming.  If there are any other social media you think we might need, drop us a line at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com and we’ll see what we can do!

This is an exciting time for us, and I am so happy all of you have decided to take this journey--hopefully not just SiP: The Audio Drama, but our other works.  This was an impulsive question spurred on by a lifelong desire that has grown into something so insanely wonderful....and we are grateful to have you with us.

11/23 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE, EILEEN THORNE: FREELANCE LAB ASSISTANT plus our Twitter Page and new logo!)

Good day, my friends!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend, and are looking forward to the debut of Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama this Friday, November 27th!

This Sunday, we formally wrapped the adaptation of the first volume of Terry Moore’s landmark comic as Riley Maness and Lauren A! Kennedy recorded the last scene.  Our Sultan of Sound Design is hard at work putting it all together so that you’ll be able to hear the adventures of Francine, Katchoo and David (okay, yeah, and Freddie as well....) every Friday for the next eight weeks.  As this is the project that brought everyone together, everyone is super excited to see how the world reacts to this full cast audio drama.  And don’t worry...I’ll begin work on adapting Book Two, I Dream of You, after Christmas.

So what do you think of our logo?  Our Grandmaster of Graphic Design Clair came up with it based on a rather vague concept by myself, and I think it’s neat!

Also new is our Twitter feed,
which officially popped into existence Sunday night.  It’s maintained by Bernice The Social Media Cat and her assistant, The Fred Olen Rey Plant.  Be sure to follow us at @Ocadecagonagon to get all the news and views from our testy tabby!  I have already talked to Bernice about setting up a Faceback Group, and she tells me it’ll be live later this week.

Of course, just because we’re all focused on Strangers In Paradise this week doesn’t mean work stops on the stuff we’ve got in store for you next year.  One of the scheduled productions for the Spring is the first EiLeen Thorne: Freelance Lab Assistant serial.  Elaine, who first appeared in Public Domain Comic Theater: Monster of The Bayous (still available for free on the 8TW's feed at The Two True Freaks Podcast Network) takes the spotlight in a series of all new explorations into mad science as brought to life by our Voice Virtuoso, Vanessa Van Zerr.  In anticipation of Eileen’s spotlight debut, Vanessa (who you will be hearing primarily as Margie in this first season of SiP) got into character for a series of photos!  What do you think?

Remember that, while we’re not holding active auditions, we are still seeking voice actors, sound designers, foley artists and other creative types who want to join our noble quest to bring audio fun and weirdness to your earholes.  Keep in mind that right now, this is a ‘Purely For The Love Of The Art FormGig!  As I prepare for I Dream of You, we’re particularly looking for voice actors for the roles of, among other, Darcy Parker.  We’re LGBTQ positive, and actively encourage artist of color to join our collective.  Just reach out to us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com and we’ll get the wheels moving.

See you in four days for Episode One of Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama!

CROSS PROMOTION DAY!...AND COMING NEXT YEAR: TREKKER!

Good morning, everyone!  I hope you’re ready for some kick-ass audio drama!

Today is, in fact, our Big-Ass Cross Promotion Day.  Yesterday, I sent out links to our podcasting partners as well as a few YouTubers (like Chauncey ‘Twisted Girl’ K. Robinson and Fizz Fop) and a couple of comic book and horror celebrities, for Public Domain Comic Theater: Murder Mansion.  If you are a patron or contributor to the podcasts listed below, you may have already gotten it in your hands.  I let the podcasts determine how they want to distribute it, so go to their site to learn what you need to do to get a copy.  Listen to it, enjoy it, and stick around after special guest announcer Michael Bailey’s spiel for not only the trailer for Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama (dropping next week!) but a little preview of what we’ve got in store for 2021.

....and that little speech previewing some of the projects we’ll be presenting in the coming year?  Remember I said there was something we had in the pipeline that we couldn’t announce just yet, something really cool and of interest to fans of sci-fi noir?  Well, it turns out that now I can announce that Ocadecagonagon Theater Works will be adapting Ron Randall’s retrofuture thriller series Trekker, that follows the adventures of bounty hunter Mercy St. Clair in the city of New Gelaph in 2226!

Ron has been creating stories of Mercy, best friend Molly Sundowner and Scuf the dox since 1987, predating other popular sci-fi noirs like Firefly and Cowboy BeBop.  We will be bringing his world to life starting this summer, adapting Mercy’s first adventure!  If you’d like to learn more about this property, please visit Trekkercomic.com and consider joining the Trekker Facebook Page. The 8TW is super-excited to be able to construct this well-realized, well-loved two-fisted, two-gunned pulp world in an audio format.

As with Strangers In Paradise, Trekker is being done with the blessing and cooperation of it’s creator, Ron Randall.  The serials will be written and overseen by our very own Eugene R. Hendricks, with sound design by the 8TW’s greatest weapon, Chris Honeywell.  We hope to have the first story available through our Ocadecagonagon Feed on the Two True Freaks Podcast Network in August 2021.

Please keep an eye on this space for more information as this production develops.  We’ve got a strong slate for 2021 with something...well, if not for everyone, for a lot of people!

Thanks to our Podcast Partners For Participating In Today’s Cross-Promotion!

11/17 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE, PUBLIC DOMAIN COMIC THEATER, VHS BOX THEATER and stuff for 2021)

Good afternoon, people!  Hope you are doing well!

Well, our penultimate recording session for this Year of The Plague, 2020, went well as we put Public Domain Comics Theater: Dancer of Death in the can and recorded the first third of VHS Box Theater: Death Code: Ninja, which will be wrapped up in anticipation of its January release this coming Sunday.  We also came closer to putting Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama Book One to bed--I’m not sure, but I think we are about 7/8th done.

After this coming week’s session, we will be taking a break for the holidays.  This has been an abbreviated recording season considering how quickly the 8TW came together, but I’m proud to say we managed to get pretty much everything done we want to present through the end of January--at which point we’ll be up to our ears in the next wave of productions, including our Valentine’s Day special Beauties and The Beast, three new Public Domain Comics Theaters (the fifth PDCT production, Pit of Horror, is being written now, and our friend Fizz Fop has chosen the first two stories in his ‘residency’ with the series!), and hopefully the first productions in our original series, Elaine Thorne: Freelance Lab Assistant and F.O.X.E.S.

(Incidentally, we’ve got a name for our first F.O.X.E.S. story...it’s called Lightning Bolt Resurrection.  What does that mean?  You’ll find out next year...)

We’re also preparing for late Spring the first of our 8TW After Dark productions.  These are productions meant for adults, and will deal with adult themes, be more intense, and use adult language....so don’t let young people listen to them!  They’ll be available exclusively for a small fee through our site.  You’ll have to provide the brown paper wrapper, though

There is presently something that we’re waiting for approval before announcing, but it’ll be a pretty big production for next summer.  If you’re a fan of noir-edged science fiction, you’re going to love it, trust us!

This Friday is our Special 8TW Cross-Promotion, as we hand Public Domain Comic Theater: Murder Mansion over to a selection of podcasters and YouTubers to share with their fans how they see fit.  Remember, Murder Mansion will not be available except through these podcasts until our first box set, Public Comic Domain Theater Comics For Your Ears #1: Horror, drops on December 21st, which will include the first four tales and some special little surprises...and all it’ll cost you is five bucks for an hour’s worth of entertainment!  What’s not to love?

At present, here’s a list of our promotion partners:

Dread Media
Hypnogoria

Deja’s Domicile of Dread
Haunted Griffin Entertainment

Geek Cast Radio
Monster Kid Radio
The Lurking Transmission

If you have a horror-themed podcast or YouTube channel and would like to participate, contact us at the email below!

As always,we are looking for new voice artists, sound designers, musicians and other creator types to join our little collective.  We are proudly LGBTQ safe (as one of our group pointed out, two of our lines feature same sex couples...maybe three) and are looking for diverse voices as we continue to mutate and grow into something special.  We’ll be posting some guidelines for sending us audition tapes and the like (ideally, we’d like to hear a minute of you doing five different characters) soon, but feel free to contact us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com!

See you in a few days for our Big-Ass Public Domain Comic Theater Cross-Promotion Event!

11/9 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE, PUBLIC DOMAIN COMIC THEATER, VHS BOX THEATER and some other stuff)

Good evening, everyone...feels like we’ve come out of a cave we’ve been living in since 2016, doesn’t it?

Strangers In Paradise: Book One is roughly 4/5th of the way in the can, and will be ready for you to listen throughout this holiday season!  We expect recording to be wrapped up by the end of this month.

We had a rather...lively General Meeting yesterday where we set our schedule through the 1st Quarter of 2021.  Take a look at what we’ve got coming for you through next March here.

You’ll notice our next release is Friday, November 20th, when we unleash Public Domain Comic Theater: Murder Mansion.  As mentioned earlier, this adaptation of a story drawn by the great Alex Toth (I am a big fan of this artist, and if you ever enjoyed Space Ghost as a kid, so are you!) will be available only through some of our horror podcasting and YouTubing friends until the release of our first box set, Public Domain Comic Theater Comics For Your Ears #1 in late December.  Right now the list of podcasts participating in this promotion are:

Dread Media
Hypnogoria

Deja’s Domicile of Dread
Haunted Griffin Entertainment
Geek Cast Radio
Monster Kid Radio
The Lurking Transmission

Follow the links above to find out how you can get your free copy of Public Domain Comic Theater: Murder Mansion!

We also settled on what will be our 4th PDCT production, as we finalized casting for ‘The Dancer of Death’ (from 1952‘s Horrific #1, penciled by the Jerry Iger Shop).  We will be recording it this coming Sunday.  Remember, this production will be available only in Public Domain Comic Theater Comics For Your Ears #1That box set will be available before Christmas for five measly dollars!  Watch this site to learn how to get your hands on it!

The other production we hope to have in the can before we take the holiday season off is, of course, our initial VHS Box Theater, Death Code: Ninja.  Casting has been completed, David Ellis is polishing up the script, and planning has already started on a spin-off, F.O.X.E.S!  A version of this martial arts spy action flick will be available in January through our feed on The Two True Freaks Network , with an expanded ‘Director’s Cut’ with extra scenes and featurettes like a brief tutorial from our Sultan of Sound Design, Chris Honeywell being available in February for a price to be announced.  Our plan is to do this for every VHS Box Theater production...and if you ask what’s the next one, well.....let’s say it’s Valentine Day appropriate, and might not be workplace appropriate.

There are two productions of our Public Domain Comic Theater spin-off, Eileen Thorne: Freelance Lab Assistant in various stages of prep.  One is called Cupid and Psycho.  The other one...we’re working on it, but there will be volcanos and goat men involved...honest!  We'd love title suggestions for that one!

There are two projects we are working on acquiring the rights to that will be rocking your world in the spring and summer of 2021if all goes well.  All I can say is keep an eye on this space for more news.

We are still welcoming new voice actors and other artists into our fold.  We’d particularly like to hear from foley artists and sound designers to work with Chris on future productions and from musicians who’d like to score our stories!  Just send inquiries, voice reels, etc. (we’d love feedback and ideas as to what you’d like to see, ummm hear and what featurettes you’d want on paid releases) to ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com

11/6 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE)

This morning I listened to the finalized mix of the first episode of Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama.

You know, talking about an idea and planning to do it, and examining how you’re going to do it, is one thing.  But actually hearing that idea, seeing it made into a tangible, physical (at least as physical as a digital item can be) form is....something special.  I am so proud of the people who decided they wanted to follow this dream with me, and super-grateful to Terry Moore for allowing me to utilize his characters and words to turn that dream into a reality.

I am also thrilled to see what y’all make of that episode when it drops on November 27th through the Two True Freaks Network.

For all you voice actors and aspiring voice actors:
I will be accepting voice reels in January, as we’ve got several major new roles to fill for Book Two: I Dream of You.  If you’d like to join this project, please send samples to ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com.  Keep in mind that, due to rights issues, Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama has to be a fan work.  However, as you no doubt noticed, we’ve got other productions we’re working on that may lead to some small recompense.  I hate those who solicit creative types with the old  ‘experience/exposure’ card, as I’ve been on the fuzzy end of that stick before, so I don’t want to do that.  Since it became obvious 8TW was going to be here for a while, I made it my business to find some projects that can lead to some revenue.  Don’t plan on quitting your day job, but I hope stuff like the Public Domain Comic Theater box sets and VHS Box Theater Director’s Cuts will allow the artists participating to maybe buy a couple of coffees or a nice dinner for their efforts.

We are slowly adding more to this blog, including info on each of our projects.  Hopefully, one day we’ll be able to create our website all our own, but until then, we’re going to make this as website-y a blog as it can be!

Keep an eye on this spot in the next few days for more info on our Special Edition of Public Domain Comic Theater:Murder Mansion.  The list of participating podcasters and Youtubers is growing, and we’re super excited to share this with new audiences!

11/3 Update (STRANGERS IN PARADISE, PUBLIC DOMAIN COMIC THEATER, VHS BOX THEATER)

Good afternoon, my friends.  I hope that if you can vote, you have voted!  This is the most important election of our lives, and it’s vital all of us have our say!

First off, I’m proud to announce a start date for Book One of Strangers In Paradise...or maybe I should let you hear it.

Listen To This!

That’s right, folks!  Book One of Terry Moore’s Strangers In Paradise will be bringing warmth and snark to your 2020 Holidays! Be sure to check the Two True Freaks Podcast Network every Friday starting on Black Friday, November 27th for a new episode of this eight-episode story.  By the time we’re done, I’ll be working hard to adapt Book Two: I Dream Of You for presentation starting in March of 2021.

(And in case you’re wondering, we’re committed to adapting all the books in Terry’s series.  So, we’ll be hanging out in his world for a while!)

Of course, that’s not all we’re planning.  The third episode of Public Domain Comic Theater: Murder Mansion is in the can and being mixed by our Sultan of Sound Design, Chris Honeywell!  As I mentioned in an earlier update, this episode will not be released to the public...it will be available to fans of certain podcasts and YouTube channels for a donation.  On the list right now are:

Dread Media
Hypnogoria

Deja’s Domicile of Dread
Haunted Griffin Entertainment
Geek Cast Radio*

If you are a podcaster or YouTuber and would like to be part of this promotion, please contact us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com. I will update the list next time.

I am also working on the script for the fourth episode.  It’s entitled The Dancer of Death, and it will be available in December exclusively as part of the first Public Domain Comic Theater digital box set, along with the other three horror comic adaptations and maaaaybe a couple of surprises as well!

After Book One of SiP is done, be prepared for the debut of VHS Box Theater!  David Ellis is working hard on the script for our first production under this banner, Death Code: Ninja!  VHSBT are a series of one-shot productions based on the boxes of vintage VHS and DVD cases...not the actual film, but what you wish the film would be!  Right now, we’re scheduled to reveal it to you all in January....then in February, we’ve got a Valentine Day’s Treat for you, so watch for it (let me just drop a little hint to your right)!  There will also be other PDCT episodes during that space between Books One and Two and a few things--one in particular that’s pending we are all raring to go on that’s waiting for approval from one of the creators--are in the hopper.

(And yes, I will get to writing the first Elaine Thorne: Freelance Lab Assistant adventure, Cupid and Psycho, sometimes during the holidays...be patient!)

Once again, remember we are always looking for voice actors, artists and other creative types to join us.  We’ll be especially interested in some voice actors for significant roles in SiP Book Two: I Dream of You.  If you’re interested, contact us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com

Thank you so much for the interest you’re giving us.  Stay Safe and Keep Your Earholes Open!

*--and keep an eye open on Geek Cast Radio, as host Mike Blanchard is planning on having some 8TW personnel on his podcast!

To Show You How Quickly Things Go ‘Round Here....

Yesterday, I had an idea for a rather strange series of audio dramas.

Those of you old enough to remember Video Stores probably share a particular memory with me...coming across a crazy Video Box with some kick-ass artwork and some bombastic back copy promising enough Thrills n’ Chills to make your brain explode with orgasmic delight.  You rent that video and take it home...only to find that the movie is nothing like the box promised.

So, I asked my fellow artists, what if we made audio dramas based solely on the box art and back copy?

I posted a couple of examples of VHS Box art. Roughly two hours later, our own David Ellis produced an outline for an audio drama based on one of those examples, Death Code: Ninja!

Thus was born VHS Box Theater, a series of done-in-one audio dramas based solely on cheap-ass VHS Videotapes from the classic Age of VHS.  We are not going to watch the movie...we’re going to give you the movie you were told you were going to see!

The first Movie For Your Ears will be available in the first quarter of 2021, with more coming as we get more and more inspired.

Tell us what you think, and if you have a particular VHS Box that you think would be prime 8TW material, please email it to us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com.  We’d also like to hear from any voice actors (or potential voice actors!), sound designers, writers and other artists interested in doing business with our little audio drama collective!

We Need A Logo....

Good afternoon, everyone.  Hope you’re doing well.

When I approached Terry Moore all those weeks ago, I didn’t expect 8TW to become what it has become.  Truth be told, I expected Terry to say no.  Then I expected not to find a group of talented actors willing to work on the Strangers In Paradise project simply for the love of it.

...and I certainly didn’t expect everyone to have so much fun together that we wanted to make the Ocadecagonagon Theater Works into a going concern!  Yet, here we are, a group of artists who love audio drama and love making it with each other.  At our last meeting, we spent most of the time pitching new projects for next year and beyond!

So if we’re going to be around for the long haul, we might need a logo our audience (that’s you, people!) will come to associate with our brand of fun audio drama.  Something that will let people know what they’re in for when they choose to listen to one of our products and, maybe, be something they might want to wear or display on some merchandise down the future.

(Yes, we’re doing this out of a passion for the medium.  No, we are not aiming to quit our day jobs.  But it might be nice to have a little extra spending money at the end of some projects, you know!)

If you’re a graphic designer and you’ve been digging what we’ve been laying down, and what we will be laying down in the near future, and would like to design us a logo, we’d like that.  While there won’t be money up front, we are more than willing to work something out so you will be properly recompensed.

If you’d like to try your hand at embodying the 8TW, please contact me, Thomas Deja, at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance for letting me babble--and letting us into your earholes with our own special brand of entertainment.

8TW Update 10/26

Good afternoon, everyone!  I hope that, if you are able to, voted early.  Here’s what going down with our little troupe!

Yesterday, we came together for a general meeting and to record the third episode of Public Domain Comic Theater!  This time, we adapted ‘Murder Mansion,’ a story that appeared in 1952‘s Adventures Into Darkness #5.  It’s about con men, a special brownstone, a demon and it’s...pets.  Unlike Episodes One and Two (which will drop this Halloween on the Two True Freaks Network!), this episode will be available free to people who are Patreons to several horror-based podcasts.  We will disclose more info as Episode Three come close to its launch date.

And if you aren’t a Patreon but want to listen to the episode, it will be bundled with the first two episodes in Public Domain Comics Theater Comics For Your Ears #1, a special digital 'box set' that will be available in time for Christmas....as well as a fourth episode exclusive only to the set, and a couple of little surprises.  Keep an eye on this space for more info.

Work on Strangers In Paradise: The Audio Drama continues, with half of the eight episodes that encompass Book One in the can.  Watch out for the 2nd Teaser for this project, done with the consent and advisement of series creator Terry Moore, which will announce the debut date.  We anticipate that Book One will run throughout the holiday season, at which point we’ll take a rest before we launch into Book Two.

...not that 8TW is going to just go away for a while.  We can’t say what we’ve got in store, but one of the great things about how this collection of audio drama geeks from across the country keeps coming up with new things to produce and share with you.  We can say that if you’re without a Valentine’s Day date for 2021, we will have your back.

As always, please keep an eye on this blog for more information on present and upcoming projects.  We invite interested voice actors and fans of audio drama to write us at ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com with input, voice reels and anything that comes to your mind!  There will be auditions for some key characters in Book Two, so we welcome inquiries from present and aspiring voice talent!

OCADECAGONAGON THEATER WORKS UPDATE (STRANGERS IN PARADISE and PUBLIC DOMAIN COMIC BOOK THEATER) 10/12

Happy Indigenous People Day!  I hope everyone is doing well.  We here at the ‘Works are very busy.

We’ve continued recording the eight episodes that take up ‘Book One’ of the audio adaptation of  Strangers In Paradise.  The first three episodes are fully recorded and are presently going through Chris Honeywell’s sound design process and the addition of the music from Jim Moon and His Eldritch Light Orchestra.  Portions of other episodes have also been recorded.  It looks like this interpretation of Terry Moore’s independent comic classic is on schedule for it’s debut later this year!

When is that debut date?  Well, we’re not ready to announce it officially just yet...but you might want to keep your Fridays free.  Watch out--listen up--for the next trailer.

And Public Domain Comic Book Theater continues to grow, with a second story, Monster of the Bayous, recorded.  This drama is adapted from a story published in the 1951 Ace Comic The Hand of Fate #8.  It’s an action packed adventure of mad science and zombie pirates featuring the talents of Vanessa Van Zerr, Anna Crawford, Eugene R. Hendricks and David Ellis, with a special appearance by Dread Media Podcast Maven Des Reddick,  and it will be coming your way later this month!

...and if you’re wondering about our first story, Flee The Phantoms--it’ll be available this Friday, October 16th through the Two True Freaks Podcast Network.  It’s free for all, a little something to show you what we can do and get you used to launching your weekend for us!

Please keep an eye on this blog for more information on present and upcoming projects.  We will soon be accepting auditions for roles for Book Two of Strangers in Paradise, so write us at Ocadecagonagontheaterworks@gmail.com if you’d like to submit voice reels or be a part of the Theater Works in some other way!

STRANGERS IN PARADISE--The Audio Drama (and a little something else)! Update 9/29

Good day, friends!  We’re edging up on my favorite time of year, and also my busiest, as I go through my annual Halloween Horrorfest (this year benefiting a slew of charities, including Black Lives Matter; go to dejasdomicile.blogspot.com for more details).  But that doesn’t mean the Audio Train stops!

This past Sunday, the Ocadecagonagon Theater Works had their first recording session.  The first episode of our adaptation of Strangers In Paradise is in the can, even with temporary internet problems!  Our talented cast, who literally are located all across America, came together to bring Terry Moore’s classic to life.  And not only did we get that episode in the can, we had fun!

We do have a tentative premiere date, which we will announce once we get some more episodes in the can...but let’s say you might have something else to do on Black Friday for a change....

Oh, and we also did something else that will be released very shortly.  We came up with the idea of giving everyone a preview of what’s in store in the future, so I adapted a horror story from the 1951 Fiction House comic Ghosts, and Chris Honeywell did it up like an old-school radio program.  So keep an eye out next month for our first Public Domain Comics Theater: Flee The Phantoms.  Please go the the Two True Freaks Network when it comes out and hear what Eugene R. Hendricks, David Ellis, Vanessa Van Zerr, Brad Oxnam, Anna Crawford, Nicole Thomte, Lauren A. Kennedy (whose horror film, Horror House LLC, will be featured during the Horrorfest!), Femmie London, Amy Riddle, special guest Witney Seibold and Chis and I can do!

(And we had so much fun doing this, we’re going to do more!)

Please keep an eye on this blog for more information on present and upcoming projects...and write us at Ocadecagonagon@gmail.com if you’d like to submit voice reels or be a part of the Theater Works in some other way!

MEET OUR DAVID...AND OTHER MEMBERS OF OUR COMPANY

Ocadecagonagon Theater Works is proud to announce the casting of Riley Maness in the role of David.

Director Thomas Deja says, “David is such a complex character, with so many things going on both internally and externally.  In Book One, he’s sort of in the background...but he’s connected by so many threads to all of our major players.  In many ways, he’s the fulcrum that drives much of the drama in Terry’s masterpiece.  We need a very versatile actor capable of handling the many shifts, and I think we found him.”

Riley Maness is Texas-born and Georgia raised, now residing in Athens, Georgia as a full-time college student, He found his way into voice acting back in March. He has a deep relationship with the arts, having performed as an actor, musician and comedian in his hometown for several years, and continued with improv and music at college. Voice acting came along and added itself to the expanding performance outlets he chooses from. When not performing, you can find him playing obscure board games or binging all the B rate horror films he can get his hands on.

“I'm ecstatic to have the chance to bring David to life,” Riley says.  “Getting to play complex characters is always a joy; even more so when you get complex relations like the love triangle/rectangle of him with Francine, Katchoo and Casey. I'm eager to get into his backstory and show people who he is!”

OTW is also proud to add the voice talents of David Ellis (left)and Vanessa Van Zerr (right) to our Repertory Company.  David and Vanessa will be giving life to the short term characters along with Gene Hendricks and Chris Powell.

Production of Book One will begin later this month, with an intended release date of this holiday season.  Please check in to this blog and on social media for future news and possible projects!

MEET OUR TAMBI

Ocadecagonagon Theater Works is proud to announce the casting of Amy Riddle in the role of Tambi.

“When she first appears in Terry Moore’s epic, Tambi just seems to be Darcy Parker’s right hand muscle...but as we go further, we realize that this formidable figure has an agenda of her own...and a connection to one of our heroines that runs deeper than just criminal fascination,”   Director Thomas Deja explains.  “When Amy auditioned for Katchoo, I detected a steeliness that I imagine Tambi would have....a voice that implies control and intelligence that may very well be the true danger rather than her impressive physicality.  It turns out she really liked the character, so I suspect there was fate playing a hand here.”

Amy Riddle fell in love with Strangers in Paradise while recovering from having her appendix out. New to voice acting, she can’t think of a better project to start with. A dabbler of many things, Amy spends most of her time hanging out with her kids, playing WoW, and working in her comic book store.

“Tambi is one of the most guarded characters in S.I.P. She would totally clean up in a poker tournament,” Amy says about her role. “She can be your best friend or your worst nightmare, and at times you never know which one it is. I look forward to giving her a voice.”

More news is forthcoming, including casting and other goodies.

MEET OUR FREDDIE

Ocadecagonagon Theater Works is proud to announce the casting of Brad Oxnam in the role of Freddie Femur.

“I’ve referred to Freddie as ‘The Most Annoying Man In Comics,” Director Thomas Deja explains, “and he is essential to this work because he’s like the pebble in your shoe.  He isn’t a real threat, unlike Darcy or Tambi, but he’s always there irritating and inhibiting you as you move forward.  The impulse is to play him totally for laughs, not taking into account how seriously messed up he is.  Brad is able to walk that fine line with his performance between comic relief and a realistic obstacle in Francine’s journey of discovery.”

Brad Oxnam is an actor/director/voice actor from Nashville, TN, by way of Texas and Mississippi. He earned a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi, and has worked in regional commercials, independent films, and regional stages, namely with The Nashville Shakespeare Festival, Watershed Public Theatre, and Street Theatre Company. A strong character actor with a knack for comedy, his vocal stylings have been featured prominently on The Inexplicable Dumb Show and BOOM: A Serial Drama Podcast. A fan of animation and comics since childhood, Brad has followed Terry Moore's work since discovering SiP in the late '90's.

He is presently working on a virtual performance of Charlotte’s Web, starting on September 14th of this year.

"I'm over the moon to bring Freddie Femur to life,” Brad says.  “It's fun to play characters who are not only funny, but allow you to stretch yourself in exploring a different personality from your own.”

Brad does add, however, “Hopefully, Freddie doesn't affect me too much - my wife would hate me!"

Keep an eye on this space for more information as we edge closer to bringing Terry Moore’s beloved characters to life!

Monday, September 7, 2020

MEET OUR KATCHOO!

Ocadecagonagon Theater Works is proud to announce the casting of Lauren A. Kennedy in the role of Katchoo.

“Lauren was the first person to read for Katchoo....and a lot of people read for her,” Director Thomas Deja said.  “And her reading was always in my head throughout the screening process.  But it was when I had her read with Nicole that I saw the chemistry we need between our two leads, so I offered her the role on the spot.”

Lauren is a film actor living in Brooklyn, NY. Her love of acting was sparked when she heard Judy Garland sing ‘Over the Rainbow.’ Recent film credits include the indie feature film Meme, the found-footage sleeper hit Hell House LLC, and the PBS documentary 1971, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. When not acting, she is probably playing Dungeons and Dragons (level 17 knowledge cleric & level 5 tabaxi rogue) working out, honing her Bop-It Extreme skills, watering her insane plant collection, or listening to the My Favorite Murder podcast.

“I’m looking forward to bringing such an iconic badass to life!” Lauren says about her character. “Katchoo is loyal and sweet (deep down) and way cooler than I am. I can’t wait to see what she teaches me. It’s an honor to be working on a project that has such a fan base thanks to the amazing work and imagination of Terry Moore.”

Keep an eye on this blog for more announcement, including the full cast list and....maybe a lil’ tease.

MEET OUR CASEY!

Ocadecagonagon Theater Works is proud to announce the casting of Femmie London in the role of Casey.

“Casey may seem like a punchline to a joke made in the very first episode when we first meet her,” director Thomas Deja says about the role, “but she’s actually one of the strongest characters in the series, being a pillar of support and a resource for Francine, Katchoo and David throughout their journeys.  And when you find out her somewhat dark back story, it makes her absolute sunniness and positivity all the more impressive.  It was very important to me to find the right voice actor to represent her.”

Femmie London is, and shall always be, a huge dork. With not a practical bone in her body, the sequin clad, pink haired bard can be found singing songs at various venues in and around Seattle, playing Dungeons and Dragons at a nearby gamer tavern, or geeking out with the owners of her favorite Local Comic Shop. Her love affair with the world of voiceover began when she became involved with the official radio station of a popular MMORPG. She thoroughly enjoys the spinster life with her feline companion Tanuki.

“I’m unbelievably excited to be voicing Casey,” Femmie says about the role. “She’s perky and plastic, but also a total badass.”

“The world and characters that Terry Moore created for Strangers in Paradise are incredibly rich and complex, and I am truly honored to be a part of this project.”

More casting announcements are coming.  Please keep an eye on this space to learn more.
